Mockingbird recalls the nursery rhyme ‘Hush Little Baby’ and songs from the Mother Goose’s Melody collection. This nursery rhyme traditionally catalogues the rewards promised to young children for keeping quiet. Here, further messages of hypocrisy and threat are examined under the feminist lens. This is the oldest song on the EP, written at the age of fourteen for Georgia's childhood friend and first bandmate, Eloise.
lyrics
Mockingbird
------
Hush my darling, don't you say a word.
The Devil isn't listening.
For in has flown his Sunday silver bird,
and I can't stop him singing.
I was a candle dove.
Sent to save,
from fires above.
Sing in your forbidden tongues,
but stop before the woodsman comes.
He'll cut your laurel and your stolen Gods away.
He'll say pot, kettle, are you black?
And turn the feathers on your back,
and make you sing for sixpence you have yet to pay.
Hush my darling, pray you pay no heed.
The magpie's only whistling.
For she did steal that diamond for a star,
and I can't stop it glistening.
I was a sun so bright.
Sent to count the stars at night.
One for sorrow,
two for mirth.
Stop before you count the earth.
Why else do you think was Jacob's fiery angel slain?
She swept to save his burning heart,
but scattered when the ash bled dark,
and cast a ring of roses round
the lovers' flame.
Hush my darling, rest your head-strong hands.
The ring won't stop them shaking.
For it has shattered to a looking glass, and I can't stop it breaking.

Loris and the Lion weave gentle tales of joy and loss; a patchwork of sonic delights built by (wo)man and machine to soothe
the soul and feed the heart.
A duo from Liverpool, navigating life together accompanied by: fairytales; folktales; lifetales.
Calling to mind the sounds and spirit of Joanna Newsom, Tori Amos and Jesca Hoop....more
I do not normally cry because of music, or fiction in general. Chords made me cry. Every time I listen to it, it still feels like a warm, tight goodbye hug.
But it isn't what convinced me to buy this album, because damn, I knew I would right from the start of Secret Worlds, and knew it ever more at every song. The way the songs here can combine to tell a whole new story, and even reference others from The Horror and the Wild, is just magnificent. Mayana
I discovered this band mere weeks ago through pure chance; someone recommended Fair in a discussion about wholesome songs. And it was; love at first listen. YouTube recommended me Battle Cries next, so I gave that a listen too, and the the energy and the overlapping lyrics made me fall in love anew.
I bought this album and Ruin less than a day later. Everything TAD have made is true art, different from everything else I've heard. Mayana
